WILLIAM J. BOYLE ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by CVTC faculty and staff, family, and friends in honor of William J. Boyle. Dr. Boyle held the position of assistant director of Instructional Services for 20 years (from 1967 until his retirement in 1987). He passed away at age 82 on December 17, 2007, at Dove Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Dr. Boyle graduated from Mauston High School and worked on the family farm. Between 1950 and 1952, he served in the U.S. Army 1st Calvary Division in the Korean War with the combat infantry. Upon returning from the Army, he attended UW-River Falls and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and education. He earned a master’s degree in agriculture education and a doctorate in education administrative from UW-Madison.

Dr. Boyle married Carolyn Mae Styer on August 8, 1953, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Eau Galle. He taught in Belvidere, IL, and in Adams- Friendship, WI, where he served as a high school principal for seven years. After receiving his doctorate, he worked with the Wisconsin Board of Vocational Education before coming to CVTC as assistant director of instruction.

Dr. Boyle served on committees for the Wisconsin Vocational Administration and advisory councils at St. Patrick’s Parish and Sacred Heart Hospital. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, the VFW, the American Legion, and the CVTC Foundation. He enjoyed playing golf and cards, cheering for the Packers, attending sporting events, dining out, and being with friends. Especially important to him was spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their various sporting events. Bill and Carolyn spent winters in Sun City West, AZ.
