THOMAS DOUGHERTY MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Thomas Dougherty was an active proponent of solar energy. He incorporated sessions on solar heating into the curriculum of the Air Conditioning Technology program in which he was an instructor for 14 years. He conducted workshops on solar heating and was heating consultant on the solar house project, which was funded by a federal grant that CVTC Residential Construction (formerly Wood Technics) students built in 1980. A native of Anna, IL, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University. Mr. Dougherty died of a heart attack at age 58. This scholarship was established in 1982, and funds came from contributions from family, friends, and colleagues.
