GWEN ENTORF MEMORIAL NURSING ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Gwen Entorf was born in Alberta, Canada, in 1932. She attended Nurse’s Training at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula, Montana. This type of nurse’s education was prevalent during this time period and would be comparable to an associate degree in nursing. She had many fond memories of her instructors, whom were all Catholic nuns, and her classmates and attended the dedication of the new program at the university when the hospital was torn down. She worked in many different areas of hospital nursing and surgery and recovery, but her favorite was labor and delivery and the nursery. She also taught nursing at a community college in College Station, Texas, while her husband John Entorf earned his Ph.D. at Texas A&M in Metallurgy. Two of her five children attended CVTC, earning degrees in nursing and police science, and her daughter Pam Entorf is an instructor and program director for CVTC’s Dental Hygienist program. It seems fitting to offer a nursing student at CVTC a scholarship to honor her memory and her love of her profession – nursing.
This scholarship is for a student who shows leadership abilities and critical-thinking skills. The recipient must show the initiative to work independently, demonstrate a desire to learn above and beyond the minimum, and be willing to seek guidance and resources outside the classroom setting from instructors and preceptors.
A recipient with a special interest in obstetric/neonatal nursing is preferred but not a mandatory requirement.
